The challenge
VARO’s sales and purchasing work crossed several departments, each needing access to product, stock and workflow information. Graphic services, purchasing, sales, export, the warehouse and technical services all participated in related processes, but manual hand-offs made information slower to follow and easier to duplicate. The organization needed one internal environment where those departments could exchange information without losing the link to Navision.
Role and responsibility
As lead developer, David shaped and implemented the extranet and the operational workflows behind it. The assignment involved understanding how information moved between teams, deciding where automation could remove repetitive transfers and connecting the new platform to existing ERP data. The result had to support different departmental needs without turning into a set of unrelated internal tools.
A shared operational workspace
The extranet brought work that had previously crossed separate channels into one web platform. Teams could find relevant information, follow the state of shared activities and hand work to another department through a visible workflow. A .NET backend supported the application, while Vue provided the interface and Firebase supplied cloud application capabilities.
Algolia added responsive search across the information exposed to employees. Navision remained connected as the operational source for the business data already managed there.
Automating sales and purchasing flows
Repeatable tasks around sales and purchasing were translated into structured workflows. The system could generate quotations and prepare exports of stock information, product images and product specifications. Specifications could also be exported to Excel for processes that still required a portable business format.
The same environment supported follow-up for cashback activities and product registrations. Bringing those capabilities together reduced the need to re-enter or manually move the same information between departments and tools.
Supporting the graphic department
The graphic department needed more than access to product data. Its work required visibility into project progress, task ownership, available resources and timelines. The extranet therefore included a task-oriented workflow for planning and following graphic production. That workflow connected creative delivery with the product and commercial information used by the other departments.
By representing this work inside the shared platform, project status could be understood in the same operational context as purchasing, sales and export requirements.
Result
VARO gained an internal platform that linked departmental workflows with the company’s Navision-backed information. Employees had a clearer route for quotations, exports, registrations, cashback follow-up and graphic-production tasks. The extranet did not replace every specialist process; it provided the connective layer that made those processes easier to coordinate and less dependent on manual hand-offs.
