VARO mobile ordering for Spain

The challenge

VARO’s Spanish sales team needed to create and manage orders while visiting customers. Returning to a separate desktop workflow delayed the hand-off from a commercial conversation to fulfilment, while manually looking up and re-entering products made field work cumbersome. The application had to support product search, barcode-assisted input and order follow-up on both iOS and Android.

Role and responsibility

As lead developer, David designed and built the mobile experience together with the .NET services behind it. His responsibility covered the cross-platform interface, local data behaviour, product discovery, Bluetooth scanner integration and connections to back-office processes. Treating the device and service layers as one workflow helped keep the field experience aligned with the systems that would process completed orders.

One application for iOS and Android

Flutter provided a shared application foundation for both mobile platforms. That allowed the sales workflow and its interaction patterns to remain consistent across devices while avoiding two independently evolving clients. The interface focused on the work representatives performed during a visit: finding products, capturing quantities, composing an order and following its state.

Firebase supported application capabilities around the mobile experience, while the .NET backend provided a controlled connection to the wider operation.

Product discovery and barcode input

Algolia supplied fast product search for situations where a representative knew a name, reference or characteristic. For physical products, a Bluetooth barcode scanner offered a more direct input route. Scanned identifiers could be connected to the corresponding product instead of being copied into the application manually.

Using search and scanning together supported different customer environments: representatives could browse when discussing options and scan when working directly with items in a store.

Local data and connected ordering

SQLite stored the device-side information needed by the application. This local layer kept mobile state separate from the remote services and gave the client a dependable way to manage the order being assembled. Completed actions were passed through the .NET services to the connected back-office process, preserving the link between field activity and fulfilment.

The structure also kept mobile-specific concerns, such as scanner state and local selections, out of the ERP-facing integration boundary.

Result

The Spanish sales team gained one mobile ordering workflow for iOS and Android. Representatives could discover or scan products, build orders and manage them during the customer visit rather than recreating the work later. The combination of Flutter, SQLite, Bluetooth, Algolia, Firebase and .NET connected a practical field tool to the operational systems responsible for the next step.
